The Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Umuahia Diocese, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, in the 2027 governorship election.
The women made their position known during the 2026 CWO Annual Conference held at Madonna Hall, CWO Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia.
The Chairman of the occasion and Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia Zone, Catechist Ambrose Jonah, commended the women for creating time to encourage one another and promote dignity, peace and mutual respect in society.
Referencing Matthew 5:13–14, Jonah urged the women to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, noting that their conduct should reflect good character, integrity and a positive reputation.

He described the conference theme, “Magnifica Humanitas,” as an important platform for promoting human dignity, peace and societal transformation.
The Labour Party stakeholder said Abia State had recorded significant progress under Governor Otti’s administration since 2023, describing the governor as a leader who had demonstrated capacity and quality leadership.
He noted that the Catholic Church remained a critical stakeholder in societal development and had continued to contribute to initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
Jonah urged the women to emulate the humility and virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, stressing the importance of respect, dignity and peaceful coexistence in their homes and communities.
He identified empowerment, job creation, infrastructural development and improved healthcare delivery as some of the priorities of the Abia State Government.
The ASEPA official also appreciated the CWO for its support and encouragement to him and Governor Otti, expressing confidence in the women’s continued commitment beyond the 2027 election.
Earlier, the President of the Catholic Women Organisation, Umuahia Diocese, Lady Ugoeze Angela Ifeanacho, said the conference was organised to remind Christian mothers of the virtues entrusted to them by God and their responsibilities in sustaining their families.
She observed that the stability of many homes depended largely on the contributions, guidance and sacrifices of mothers.
Ifeanacho expressed concern over what she described as the growing tendency among some women to neglect their family responsibilities in pursuit of worldly interests, warning that such attitudes could undermine family values.
She stressed the need for disciplined, responsible and morally upright mothers, urging women to avoid rudeness, disrespect and aggression when resolving domestic disagreements.
Speaking on the theme, “Magnifica Humanitas,” the CWO president described women as custodians of peace and human dignity, noting that mothers played vital roles in nurturing children through sound moral values, discipline and responsible upbringing.
She cautioned the women against verbally abusing their husbands, children and domestic aides, emphasising the importance of cooperation, mutual understanding and unity in their homes.
Ifeanacho encouraged members to uphold the virtues of a good Catholic woman by promoting love, respect, peaceful coexistence and responsible motherhood, describing these values as essential to building stable families and a better society.
