The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have agreed on new strategies aimed at combating human trafficking and related offences in the state.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, KSM, JP, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to protect human lives, uphold human dignity, and eradicate all forms of human trafficking and violence against persons.

Commandant Odimba made the pledge on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, while receiving the Abia State Commander of NAPTIP, Mr. Izunna Iwobi, at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Umuahia.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency cooperation and developing new approaches to tackle trafficking in persons.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Iwobi commended the NSCDC Abia State Command for its consistent support, noting that the partnership has significantly contributed to the successes recorded in the fight against human trafficking and violence against persons in the state.
According to the Head of Media and Public Relations for the State Commandant, CSC Ndukwe Agu Egwu, the NAPTIP Commander stated that the agency has over the years leveraged the strategic presence and robust intelligence network of the NSCDC to apprehend notorious human trafficking syndicates. He called for deeper collaboration between the two agencies to sustain the gains already achieved.
Responding, Commandant Odimba emphasized that although both agencies operate under different mandates, they share a common responsibility as federal government institutions to safeguard lives and preserve human dignity.
“We believe in effective synergy and collaboration because no agency can do it all alone. Wherever the protection of lives and property is required, count us as dependable partners,” he said.

The Commandant further highlighted the establishment of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration Unit by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, as a clear demonstration of the Corps’ commitment to combating human trafficking nationwide.
He assured the NAPTIP delegation of the Corps’ unwavering support for all genuine efforts aimed at winning the fight against trafficking in persons and other related crimes.
The visit was attended by other senior officers of both agencies. Highlights included the signing of the visitors’ register, exchange of protocol plaques, and group photographs.
Both agencies reiterated their resolve to work together towards ensuring a safer society free from human trafficking and related criminal activities.
