ABSU: 5,258 Students take matriculation oath

The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) Professor Onyemachi Maxwell Ogbulu, has assured that the Institution will soon witness more development in the areas of research and infrastructure going by the engagements of his administration with local and International organizations for collaborations and partnership.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this in his address at the 40th matriculation ceremony of the University for the 2021/2022 Academic Session, where a total of five thousand, two hundred and fifty eight (5,258) students were admitted into various programmes of the University.

His words “We are opening up opportunities for collaborations and partnership from both local and international institutions. The dividends of these engagements will soon be very visible in the areas of infrastructure and Research development”.

Professor Ogbulu expressed optimism that with the support of all stakeholders, there will not be any more interruption in academic activities in his tenure, so that every course or discipline will be concluded at its stipulated time.

The Vice-Chancellor, used the forum to appreciate the Governor, Abia State and visitor to the University, His Excellency Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD, for his support to the University, while expressing gratitude also to the Honourable Chancellor, HRM Professor James Ortese Orzu Ayatse, Tor Tiv, Chairman, Benue State Council of Chiefs, as well as to Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Chief Mba Okoronkwo Ukairo and the entire council members.

While congratulating the matriculants for their success in gaining admission in the University, he warned them against engaging in cult activities, use of hard drugs, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and spreading false rumors in the social media to de-market the University, urging them to be law abiding and discharge themselves creditably in their academics and conducts.

Ogbulu also advised the students to ensure that they register their courses on-line at the University portal in order to have access to lecture materials uploaded by their lecturers and check their results with the new ABSU.

He maintained that “Abia State University is still the centre of excellence and service. We boast of great scholars if International repute as Lecturers, while our products continue to win local and international laurels in competitions” the VC asserted.

Earlier in a homily titled, “divine nuggets to greatness”, Venerable Ugochukwu Ihechukwu stated that God desires his children to be great and excel. However, to attain such greatness he said, there are principles and nuggets to obey which includes discipline, devotion to God and diligence at work.
Highpoints of the ceremony were the administration of the matriculation oath on the fresh students by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, and the formal admission of the students into the University according to their Faculties by the Vice Chancellor.
