The Head, Abia state office National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Mrs Nkemdilim Okafor has appealed to the public to help the agency by reporting to them the activities of human traffickers.
Speaking during an event to Mark the 2022 World Day Against Trafficking of Persons, in umuahia, Mrs Okafor said that the agency has intensify against trafficking of persons which she described as a crime against humanity.
Speaking on the Theme of the celebration “Use and Abuse of Technology, Mrs Okafor said the agency has commenced sensitisation to schools market places, and communities as part of strategies to discourage the trafficking of people, urging parents not to fall prey to the hands of traffickers who promised them heaven and earth but lure their children and wards outside the country for heinous acts.
She disclosed that there are laws against trafficking of persons including the constitution of the nigeria, adding that a lot of people have been prosecuted by the agency for trafficking.
The Head of Abia state office of NAPTIP, Mrs Okafor stressed the need for the young ones to engage themselves in activities that will enhance their future, such as skills.
Mrs Okafor while commending the National Coordinator of NAPTIP for her commitment and steadfastness to duty which has led to a reduction in trafficking activities in the country, restated her determination to stamp out trafficking activities in Abia state.
