The Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Asonye Ogbonna stated this in a meeting for Hotel Owners and Managers in the State organised by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy at the Conference Hall of the Ministry at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat, Umuahia.
Th Honourable Commissioner said that one of the principal objectives of the State Governor, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, was to encourage businesses by providing a conducive environment for them, adding that there was need for the businesses to operate within acceptable environmental practices.
Mr. Ogbonna, however, explained that only wastes that have been certified as not hazardous to the public and environment could be discharged to the public drains.
He disclosed that the Ministry will from henceforth monitor compliance to this directive across the hotels and eateries in the State, and deal with violators accordingly.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ikechukwu Chidozie Oriuwa and the Directors of the Ministry were present during the meeting.
