The new Commissioner for Environment in Abia state, Chief Sam Nwogu said sanitation exercise from the month of October will be a serious business as usual, warning Abians to take the exercise very serious.
Recall that the new commissioners were sworn in on Tuesday 26th October, 2021.
Addressing newsmen, staff and management of ministry of environment, taskforce workers, security agents including stakeholders at Umuahia North LGA head quarters in Umuahia, Nwogu stressed that those illegal activities that violet the essence of the exercise would not tolerated henceforth.
He stressed that Igbos were known for supervising communities called “Ndi Ole Ala” will be reactivated, adding that every body including Civil Servants, Traders, Market Unions among others will collaborate to ensure that the exercise records huge success and meets the desire of the State Chief Executive, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu government.
Contributing, the new Commissioner for Information, Abia State, Barrister Eze Chikamnayo, disclosed that there will be a paradigm shift from the old ways the sanitation exercise is done in the State.
Chikamnayo called on all hands to be on deck in the way the monthly sanitation exercise is going, adding that the exercise will be repackaged.
He revealed that the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, is eager to see a new method from the way the exercise was observed in the past and itching to see better environmental exercise.
Similarly, the newly commissioner for environment in Abia State, Barrister Sam Nwogu has charged state environmental sweepers to join the taskforce to end indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Addressing sweepers at Isigate during October sanitation exercise, Sam Nwogu, said the state government has designed better methods to control the exercise to curtail the spread of diseases and warned Abians to bag their refuse, keep their environments clean, as well as motor park workers, tricycle operators and the general public.
On his part earlier, the state commissioner for information, Eze Chikamnayo told Abia street sweepers that it is the job of Abians to help them keep the environment clean and advised them to be up and doing.
