ABIA NSCDC,NDLEA CONCLUDE PLANS FOR JOINT OPERATIONS;…VOW TO INTENSIFY WAR AGAINST ILLICIT DRUGS PEDDLING & CONSUMPTION

The Abia State Command of Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corps said plans have been concluded for regular Joint Operations involving NDLEA and NSCDC aimed at curbing the menace of illicit drugs peddling and consumption in the State.

This arrangement was disclosed on Thursday, 16th April,2026 by the Abia Commandant of NSCDC, -CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba,KSM, JP after a meeting with his counterpart, the State Commander of NDLEA- CN.Odoemelam Chile Chigbu in his office at Aba.

Earlier in his speech Commandant Chukwuemeka decried the devastating effects of illicit drugs peddling and consumption in the lives of young people and its direct consequences on crime.

Speaking further, he said ”there is a strong nexus between illicit drugs peddling / consumption and crimes in our societies. Once we successfully cut the supply chain and tackle the menace of illicit drugs intake, the society will witness a drastic drop in crime and criminalities”

He pledged the commitment of his Command to the “ Joint Operations” arrangements to tackle the illicit drugs peddling and consumption in the State.

He informed the State NDLEA Commander of some High-Tech crime fighting equipments recently approved and released to the Command by the Commandant General, Professor Abubakar Ahmed Audi and assured that they will be deployed to improve the security situation of the State.

In his response, the Abia NDLEA State Commander thanked his guest for the willingness of the Corps in the State to deepen the already existing synergy and collaboration. He agreed with Commandant Chukwuemeka that “Joint Operations” holds the key to a successful campaign against drug and substance abuse in the State.

He offered to provide drug testing services to successful applicants in the ongoing NSCDC recruitment to ascertain their status. He further stated that the Command has functional Counseling, Treatment and Rehabilitation Department to provide assistance to deserving citizens.

Meanwhile, during an extended inter- agency interaction during the visit, a Sensitization Programme on the dangers of substances abuse involving all the security agencies was proposed and adopted for further fine tuning and implementation.

Highlights of the visit were the the signing of the Visitors’ Book, exchange of Protocol Plaque and a group photograph.

The State Commandant was accompanied by some very Senior Officers during the visit.
