The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 670 personnel across the state ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration to ensure adequate security and a peaceful festivity.
The State Commandant, CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, KSM, JP, disclosed this shortly after an Expanded Management Meeting held on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Command headquarters in Umuahia.
In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Public Relations, CSC Ndukwe Agu Egwu, the Command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and critical national assets during and after the celebration.
Commandant Chukwuemeka commended officers and men of the Corps for their dedication to duty, noting that their efforts have helped sustain the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
He, however, urged them to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering, stressing the importance of preventive and proactive security measures.
According to him, the deployed personnel were drawn from the Command’s Tactical Teams, Special Forces, Anti-Vandal Unit, and the newly reorganized Rapid Response Squad (RRS). He added that special security arrangements had also been made for Very Important Personalities visiting the state for the celebration through the Command’s VIP Unit.
The Commandant further stated that officers had been strategically stationed at Eid prayer grounds, worship centres, recreational facilities, and event centres across the state.
He charged personnel on Salah duty to work closely with other security agencies and carry out their responsibilities with professionalism and patriotism, warning that acts of misconduct would attract severe sanctions.
Commandant Chukwuemeka also urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and report suspicious movements to the nearest NSCDC office or other security agencies for prompt action.
He wished Muslim faithful in the state a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
