A Faith based Higher Institution, Maranatha University Mgbidi in Imo State, has inaugurated her maiden Senate Members and Dedicated the institution to the glory of God.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ogwo E Ogwo reminded the Senate members that much is expected from them, as such, they must be fully aware of the enormity of the responsibility on their shoulders in the pioneering effort to establish a proper foundation for the University.
Professor Ogwo said their task therefore reduces to building upon the foundation and contributing their utmost to ensure that Maranatha University flourishes.
He urged the Senate members not to be afraid, as God who works mysterious ways, His wonders to perform, as recorded in Proverbs chapter 3 verse 25a, which says “Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh” and Daniel chapter 11, verse 32b, which says “but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits”.
The VC stated that the word of God remains their paramount guide and shield, as they pioneer the start up of and continuation of academic in their respective disciplines, departments and faculties as they relate with other staff vertically and horizontally.
He encouraged the Senate members to remain focused on the substantive goals, remain very strong and courageous and observe and obey all the regulations that apply in the University.
According to Professor Ogwo, the major business of a University is academic. He pointed out that it is only in Senate or through Senate that academic matters can be PROPERLY thrashed out. He maintained that any other way would not be right and would be detract from the excellent sought for Maranatha University Mgbidi.
The University Don noted that the academics in Senate must seek to acquire the wisdom, produce and courage needed to do right ALWAYS. For it is only righteousness that exalts.
A member of the BOT, Professor T U Nwabueze on behalf of the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Maranatha University Mgbidi, Reverend Emeka Ngubo, urged the staff and management of the University to be up and doing. He noted that the foundation of the University is very important, as well, he appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ogwo for his dogged efforts and academic prowess injected to see the University succeeds.
The Registrar of Maranatha University Mgbidi, Sir Chibueze James Egwu said the University was instituted to produce sound academic minds with acceptable character. Therefore, he enjoined post-UTME students and parents to take advantage of their reputation as a Faith based university to enroll into Maranatha University.
Sir Egwu thanked the BOT members and the Senate for their commitment and zeal to move the University to the next level.
In a brief dedication service, a member of the Board of Trustees, Bishop Stafford Nwaogu handed over the affairs of the University to God and charged the Senate to put all their trust in God and work as a team.
Drawing reference from Psalm 124, from 1 to 8, Bishop Nwaogu solicited the sensitivity and the spirit of knowledge, wisdom and understanding to lead better.
He further prayed that the Senate will be a blessing and not a cause to the University and added that without God, man cannot achieve anything, even in security.
The cleric appreciated God for the grace given to the chairman and the management of Maranatha University and prayed God to bless them more.
